John Brushett was born in the old hospital located in Ship Cove, Burin. His parents are Albertha McPhee and Charles Brushett. His father passed away when he was still a young boy. His siblings are Leonard, David, Travis, Allison Holloway.
He grew up mostly in Creston North where he established a number friendships. His family still lives in the area. His mother lives in Mooring Cove. Aunt Jessie Abbot currently lives in Bull’s Cove. He also grew up with his cousin Gordie Abbot. His aunt Marion Hollett lives in Lewin’s Cove.
John married Pauline Smith in 1989. In 1994 John served in the Marshall Islands as a missionary. In 2007 he received God’s call to become a Bible instructor. Due to his exemplary work in 2008 the Seventh-day Day Adventist Church invited him to serve as a pastor in Lethbridge; he is currently serving in Corner Brook.
The call of God and ordination to the Gospel ministry was recognized by the Church in a special sacred ceremony in the summer of 2016 at Camp Woody Acres (Southwest Pond). Brushett’s love for young people led him to be appointed as Youth Director. Over the years he has hosted yearly Camp Meetings at Woody Acres where the Church meets annually for nine straight days to praise God, pray and listen to God’s Word by international speakers. He also enjoys playing the guitar, going fishing, playing hockey, and “hopping rocks off the brook.”
This summer he suffered an injury that broke several of his ribs. As the doctors looked into his situation they discovered he had cancer. Due to his injury and medical condition, he is currently on a leave of absence and receiving monthly financial assistance from the Church. Unfortunately, some of his medical expenses are not covered by his insurance. Your assistance will help alleviate some of this financial burden. We are grateful for your generosity.
The line-up of musicians for the night include Ross Tilley and Friends.
Pr. Victor M. Reyes-Prieto will make a brief presentation on Cancer: Causes and Prevention.
