Academic Tutoring and Music Lessons
Tuesday through Thursday 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
The NuFoundLife Centre offers academic tutoring services, music lessons and counseling to help students, parents and singles of all ages in the Burin Peninsula. We take a unique and innovative approach to teaching that helps students connect with the subject matter they need to master. Through personalized and focused teaching processes, our students develop the tools they need for ongoing success in their fields of study. Our success depends on our attention to the needs of our clients and truly helping them achieve their academic goals. We don't succeed unless our clients succeed.
The NuFoundLife Centre aims to serve the needs of the surrounding community by providing academic support, resources to enhance family life and holistic health information to benefit the entire person. Our approach seeks to address important aspects of human development such as mental health, intellectual growth, physical well-being, and spiritual maturity. Therefore it is our mission to provide services that will contribute to the development of people into valuable contributors to our modern society and to serve the community in Christ’s name.
We recognize that all human beings were created for healthy interpersonal relationships. We envision a peaceful community that embraces all its citizens regardless of philosophical ideology and welcome honest and healthy conversation without discrimination or partiality. As a member of the local community, we see ourselves as agents of reconciliation. The love of God compels us to reach out to the needs of any individual who seeks relief from oppression, discrimination, abuse, bullying, and violence.
Currently the Centre offers academic support in mathematics, reading and writing. Trained tutors are available for consultation. The directors of our program have many years of experience teaching in the public schools and privately.
We focus on developing methods of approaching subjects that helps students get their minds around challenging concepts. We make it a point to intentionally listen to our clients' needs and diagnosing where their understanding of concepts is breaking down in order to provide a targeted approach to assimilating the content informtion.
The Centre offers fine music instruction. The music program includes lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, bass, clarinet, recorder, drums, percussion and voice.
Short-term counselling sessions are available for premarital counselling, married couples, bereavement and depression. We offer preventative, remedial, and developmental services. The requires individualized approaches to assist clients in tackling personal challenges. Since our services are short-term, clients in need of further specialized services are referred to professionals who are experts in their field. Clients dealing with addiction will receive services to guide them to healing resources locally, throughout Newfoundland or in mainland Canada.
Our counseling services endeavor to promote the spiritual and psychological well-being of our clients. It is our desire to enhance and promote healthy decision-making and overall functioning of the whole person. There are a number of people who have never entertained the idea of consulting with a counselor even in the most challenges moments of their lives. Yet we all need to consider an outside perspective to compare with our own worldview.
The best decisions in life are made though the counsel of people who care for us or are trained to guide the person to a greater understanding of the issues at hand before making a final decision. For centuries a core secret to a successful life has been to recognize our human vulnerabilities and limitations in order to come up with a plan that will take into consideration all obstacles that are to be overcome.
Who needs counseling? The answer is everyone.
Who specifically needs counseling? Parents raising children (infants, toddlers, pre-teens, pre-adolescents [tweens], and teens). Adults (professionals, blue collar workers, career changes, dating, marriage, looking to start a family, short and long-term plans, infidelity, divorce, remarriage). Aid is available to anyone experiencing difficulties. Over the years families have benefitted from assistance provided to them in times of need. The Centre functions as complentary support to families and individuals in distress facing temporary challenges. Coupled with our counselling services, we endeavor to provide assistance to anyone with a legimitate need of assistance. Contact our support line for information.
Keep in mind that whereas we offer limited financial assistance, our policy prevents us from offering cash or providing lending resources. We encourage individuals to submit their request in advance for pre-approval. Due to the fact that we thrive on the generous donations from donors in the local community, our cash flow is quite limited and therefore we are not able to deal with last minute emergencies. All persons seeking assistance are encouraged set up an appointment to speak with one of our counsellors and plan in advance and before matters become too critical for anyone to handle.
Opportunities for Volunteers
The Centre operates due to the assistance of volunteers that donate time and finances to support the outreach efforts in the local community. There are plenty of opportunities available to adults as well as youth and teens to become engaged in acts of kindness. Students are welcome to inquire regarding community service to fulfill graduation requirements.
We are thankful to all our friends who provide us with weekly financial support which assists us in covering the expenses to run our facilities as well as providing a budget to assist those in need.
