Marystown, NL -- COUNTDOWN TO ETERNITY 2015.  An Introduction to Bible Prophecy.

This FREE course introduces the serious Bible student to a fascinating journey through the interrelated books of Daniel and Revelation.  Serious scholarship, grace and compassion are united to present a series of topics that address the issues of those who seek meaning in world history and current events.  Recognizing that Christianity splintered and scattered almost 500 years ago, and its attitude has significantly changed over the last century, the course presents material that speaks sympathetically to the various shifts in modern Christian thought.  It provides careful answers to those particular questions of interpretation that have become increasingly important at the beginning of the 21st century.

Ultimately, unlike other classes in biblical prophecy, students will discover that God does cares about their lives, as insignificant as they may appear to be, that God sees humanity as dear and important to Him as to care enough to inform those who are willing to find meaning for their lives in the Scriptures --real meaning.

The bools of Daniel and Revelation speak to the minds and hearts of modern men and women, young and old alike.  Students will find out that these books not only reveal the future, but they also highlight an infinite, powerful and loving God who actually cares for all humans, believers ot not.

God provides for His people --pleading with them to accept His forgiveness and power to live changed lives.  It is God's desire that human beings who were created in the image of God, be now partakers of the divine nature. (2 Peter 1:4)  What an awesome God!  He has promised from long ago that all the evil in the world will eventually be erradicated.

The book of Genesis begins with the introduction of death and sin, while the last book of the Bible end with a resolution to all conflict.

“Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him.  And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads.  And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

Then the angel said to me, “Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.”

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.”
  (Revelation 21:3, 4; 22:3-7)

The future will favor the informed.  Find out your future and discover how God actually cares for you and His "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11) You owe it to yourself to find out what those plans are.  Begin by signing up today.

COUNTDOWN! Come and enjoy a time of refreshing and singing.  Learn the stories behind some of the most famous Christmas hymns.  A light supper and refreshments will be provided for all who attend.

Marystown, NL --  It’s on people’s minds. Millions of books have been sold—too often with the truth left behind. Major magazines like TIME and Newsweek have written cover stories about it. Television shows invoke its themes. Right now, people in your own community are asking, “Are these the last days of planet earth?”

Recently, even The Economist ran a cover story with the question, “Is the World About to End?”  It’s on people’s minds.

With world events the way they are, there’s a growing sense among the general public that it’s no longer business as usual here on planet Earth. Sales of the Left Behind series have exceeded 62 million copies—75 million, if you include children’s versions and other products—with a 13th novel in the dispensationalist series topping the best-seller lists this summer. Hank Hanegraaff, host of the Bible Answer Man radio program, has now released his own line of prophetic novels, The Last Disciple. This new series covers prophecy from the preterist1 perspective, and the first book sold 50,000 copies in just weeks.

Not to be left out, NBC aired a mini-series called Revelations during their important spring sweeps, the time when the networks bring out their most popular fare. The program’s website says that the characters are “propelled into a deepening mystery, finding evidence that the world, as predicted by the book of Revelation, has reached the End of Days.” More than 15 million Americans watched the show on its premiere night alone.

Today, 55 percent of Americans believe in the rapture, according to a recent Newsweek poll, while just one-third believe the book of Revelation contains “true prophecy.” And millions of those that do, desperate to understand the subject of Bible prophecy, are turning to sources of information that do not reflect solid biblical truth.

It is on people’s minds. And it’s time for the Truth to be heard.

The Appearing
Pastor Shawn Boonstra, former speaker/director of It Is Written Television and currently at the Voice of Prophecy, has been increasingly burdened by what he sees around him. And that’s why It Is Written launched this project—to capitalize on recent unprecedented interest in the end of the world. The Appearing is a 5-night multimedia experience that will share the Bible truth about the Second Coming. It’s a free event for the local community. Most importantly, it’s designed to bring a message of peace and reconciliation to a world in turmoil.

Three Components
Multimedia Experience. Each night for 5 nights, Pastor Boonstra will spend 30-40 minutes sharing some aspect of the Second Coming in a dynamic, media-rich presentation via satellite.

Local Moderator. At the conclusion of each evening’s presentation, Pastor Boonstra will turn the time over to Pastor Victor M. Reyes-Prieto, local moderator, who will lead the audience through a discovery journey of the Scriptures. The study will both review the content they have just heard, and add a few questions to deepen their understanding. This allows for more personal interaction and stronger relationship building.

Book and Other Goodies. Additionally, Pastor Boonstra has written a book about the Second Coming, also called The Appearing. This book gives much greater historical detail about competing prophecy viewpoints, and fleshes out the biblical perspective in depth. This book is an excellent companion to the 5-night event and your local follow-up classes.

Sunday      Nov. 23: A Planet in Upheaval

1 Preterism is a Christian eschatological view that interprets prophecies of the Bible as events which have already happened. Daniel is interpreted as events that happened in the second century BC, while Revelation is interpreted as events that happened in the first century AD

World Day of Prayer 2014 | Seveth-day Adventist Church | Marystown, NL

Written by the Women of Egypt
Contact: 709-279-2807

On Friday, March 7, 2014, the women of Egypt invite you to join with them in the World Day of Prayer celebration, praying under the theme, “Streams in the desert”. Each year the World day of Prayer service brings with it a feeling of curiosity. What will challenge, inspire and
encourage us? What will we learn about the theme and the focus country? What will we learn about ourselves?

“I can imagine myself by the well, looking down at the water. The water is like a mirror. I can see not only myself, but if I look closer, I can see the whole world.”

Through the voices of urban, and rural, young and older Egyptian women, the World Day of Prayer Committee of Egypt introduces their country on a human scale. They reveal Egypt as they live it: a country with one foot firmly planted in the past, teetering on the cusp of modernity, searching for the next step.

Through World Day of Prayer, women around the world
  • affirm their faith in Jesus Christ
  • share their hopes and fears, their joys and sorrows, their opportunities and needs
  • affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and both have immeasurable influence in the world.
Through World Day of Prayer, women are encouraged
  • to become aware of the whole world and no longer live in isolation
  • to be enriched by the faith experience of Christians of other countries and cultures
  • to take up the burdens of other people and pray with and for them
  • to become aware of their talents and use them in the service of society
Please join us and invite your friends and family to attend the World Day of Prayer service and learn more about the culture and heritage of Egypt. Join Christians in more than 170 countries around the world and 2,000 communities across Canada who will gather on the World
Day of Prayer to pray and act in solidarity with the people of Egypt.

A committee composed of representatives from various Christian denominations in North Burin met to plan for the upcoming event.  A local World Day of Prayer service will be held at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 785 Ville Marie Drive, Marystown, NL A0E 2M0 at 7 :00 PM on March 7, 2014.  Snow day will be on  March 14.  Visit our Facebook page for local updates.

2013 Events

December 7, 14, 21, 2013 at 11 AM
Join us for an exciting trilogy of presentations which will explore an obsure story of the Nativity story that seems to have been forgotten by many.

"While visiting the store of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston Massachusetts one Christmas season --Pastor Reyes-Prieto recalls-- I was intrigued by a picture of the mother of Jesus lying down on a Sphynx --a pagan symbol depicting an amalgamation of human and beast.  My first reaction was to feel angry at such disrespect."

This experience led him to search the Scriptures and discover the most unusual story related to the events surrounding the birth of the Saviour.  Now, for the first time he reveals his findings to the public of Marystown in three presentations in December.

The multimedia presentations will feature the music of Chip Davis' Mannheim Steamroller and others.  It will be a wholesome fun for the entire family.  Pastor Victor Reyes-Prieto will cover questions such as: Where did the wise men come from? How did they know that the Messiah had been born when the lived so far away in the East? How did they know to follow a star in the sky? What does Egypt have to do with the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem? What does this obscure story have to do with us today?

Come early an join the all participants in singing Christmas Carols.  After the service, all are invited to join us for a private meal.  All are welcome!

Beginning December 1, we will explore the Scriptures in regards to the Birth, Childhood, and Early Life of Jesus Christ.  A series of questions will be posted on Facebook which have their answers in the Bible alone. You will have plenty of opportunity to make your comments.

Join us in Marystown for the first three Saturday mornings in December and discover Jesus, our Saviour, from a fresh perspective.  Indeed, He is able to save us to the uttermost.  Discover why!  For more information call 709-357-2098.

Ken Corkum will lead the service.  Marystown SDA will be ordaining spiritual leaders: two ladies will be ordained as elders.  Two ladies will be ordained as deaconesses.  Three gentlemen will be ordained as deacons.
After Christ had washed their feet, he told them, "When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." (John 13:12-17, NIV) {RH, Nov. 4, 1902 par. 5}

COMMUNION SERVICESabbath, June 29, 2013.  Pastor Ken Corkum has been invited to join us and lead the Lord's Supper.  "As we celebrate these ordinances, we are to remember that Christ is present, making the occasion one of great interest...We should search our hearts, and confess the sins that we have cherished. If we are guided by the Holy Spirit, our thoughts will not be thoughts of self-exaltation, but of severe self-censure and humiliation. Selfishness, evil speaking, and evil thinking will be put away. We shall remember Christ's action, as he girded himself with a towel. While the dispute as to who should be greatest was still fresh in the minds of the disciples, Christ humbled himself, and washed their feet, wiping them with the towel wherewith he was girded."  {RH, November 4, 1902 par. 4}

EVERY DISCIPLE SHARING JESUS CHRIST. Sabbath, March 23 through Sabbath March 30.  "What would happen if the whole church every member –across the North American Division– were to intentionally spend a week praying for God to open doors for witnessing to specific individuals?   "Seven Days of Miracles," an initiative jointly sponsored by Adult Ministries and the Ministerial Association, is designed to encourage that to happen.
On the Sabbath a week before Easter members are encouraged to identify people they will specifically target with prayer - asking God to open a door of opportunity for them to touch that person's life for Christ in a tangible way.  Suggested steps will be laid out for church members to follow over the course of seven days.
Visit the NAD website starting on March 23rd for daily suggestions.
